Charlottesville Marathon Support - 4/9/2011 - riders needed
The Charlottesville Marathon is April 9th 2011. That's this Saturday. Here at BRC, this will be our 3rd year providing a bike support team for the race. And we need a few good men/women who can rally.
Before I tell you about the responsibilities involved, I'll hook you with the benefits. You get a moving front row seat to watch a race among some of the most surreal, long distance speedsters in the world. Ranked by Runners World Magazine as "one of the best new marathons in the country" three years ago, the event has only gotten better. And with better comes bigger. And that's where we come in.
BRC will provide a bike support team to act as course marshals for the Marathon, Half Marathon, and 8 K races. We'll meet at Charlottesville Running Company at 6:00 AM on Saturday morning, don some pretty snazzy directeur-sportif apparel, and then shepherd 500 or so pain-seekers-on-foot around our local 'hood via bike. No experience necessary - just bring your bike, your helmet, whatever you need for a 26 mile ride, and your good legs - lest you be dropped by the frontrunners (on foot) coming up River Road.
In short, we're just riding the course with the runners and trying to keep them out of trouble. It's a hoot. You'll see some amazing speed and also some awful pain out there. Be encouraging.
Please direct any questions and/or RSVP to Dave Tevendale - davidtevendale@hotmail.com - with your ability to participate on Saturday. We need about 10 riders. Both road and mountain bikes are fine. Again, start time is 6 AM, and we'll be done before noon.
Rally.
